Alles Gute zum Geburtstag

I will explain the choice of pictures I have chosen for this post.  The first picture is of some cookies I made for Silas to eat.  I made them with 1/2 whole wheat flour, and I put in a lot of flax seed, wheat bran, and less sugar than usual, and some honey, maple syrup, and I chopped up dark chocolate and added ground pecans.  I I also added sunflower seeds.!!   They are delicious in chocolate chunck cookies!  They were quite tastey, at least Dan and I sure thought so.  I did make enough for us to have some too of course.  The second picture is myself with my jar of homemade granola.  I am making it now with hemp seed, flax seed, and coconut oil, maple syrup, and other good stuff.
Don't I look happy to have made it!  :)   The third picture is of me and my friend Myrna.  I thought I had erased these pics, but obviously did not.
This week has been espesially nice, weather wise.  We have had days in the 60 degrees.  Tomorrow we are to get snow, but it will not last long, so we will watch it, and enjoy it.  It will be warmer and sunny already by Sunday.
Currently I have a pizza crust rising on the kitchen counter.  It is whole wheat, and we really enjoy this recipe.  We will be eating it wthin an hour!!  I have set the bowl on a heating pad, to make it rise quickly.  Dan is preparing the toppings for it.  We will put peppers, onions, feta, olives, mushrooms, and tomatoes, and other things that Dan will come up with- it will be good.
Dan is preparing the seeds for the garden.  Many of them need to be started right away in our house,so that they will be the right size to put out in the ground, at the correct time.  That will take up a lot of his weekend.  These fruits and vegetables will all be worth the work when they do "produce".  There is nothing better than food that is that fresh.
I finished reading a book titled "In defence of Food".  By Michael Pollan.  It was another good book by him.  It is well researched and discusses many questions that everybody who eats food  (which is all of us)  need to consider when we feed ourselves.  Eating is something that should be done with pleasure, and for health, and done thoughtfully by educating yourself.  I recommend this book, and any that he has written.  I recently read "Omnivoe's Dilemna", writen by him, and it was excellent too.
Time to go finish making the pizza!!

I Love Dark Chocolate!!

Greetings happy readers:
This is a picture we took, (with the handy dandy 10 second delay switch), while Dan was continuing to plan our garden.  It takes a lot of time to plan a vegtable garden properly.   You have to consider what plants can and cannot be planted next to each other.  Some plants cannot be planted side by side, or they will not grow properly.  The space needed for each plant has to be carefully considered.  Those are just two of the many things that need to be considered when planning a vegetable garden.  In this picture, I had just previously come inside from a walk, and was relaxing before leaving to have dinner with Myrna.  I left shortly after this, and my pics of Myrna and I- did not work out, much to my/your dissapointment.  It is a nice thing to look back on; good times with friends.
Early today, Dan and I went to Woodmans for groceries.  On the way home from Woodmans we stopped at the library so that I could drop off old, and pick up new books.  We then, went home and had lunch.  I put together a batch of granola.    The granola  has to slowly bake for 4 hours, so while it was baking, we went to the Stoughton Post Office so that I could get my passport application in.  I later met Myrna at the Carpe, and we had veggie melts, and chocolate cake, with decaf coffee.  It was all as good as you remember it to be.  We had a good time. We laughted heartily about an 83 year old lady who accidentally swallowed her 3 unit bridge while I was at work Tuesday while having her teeth cleaned by one of the lady's I work with.  She is OK by the way, she just has to sift through her poo until it "passes".
While I was out for a walk today, the air felt springlike to me.  It had a heavy, humid feel to it.  It was however still brisk!!  I could smell new smells in the air also.  I like to spend enough time out of doors so that I am able to notice the differences in the changing of the seasons.  The reason is for my own enjoyment.

Scoobie Doobie Doo

Well, this has been a nice SUNNY week.  Although today the sun just peeked out a bit.  I did enjoy a good long walk today.  Tomorrow is going to be 46 degrees out, and sunny, and I have the day off!!
The artisan bread is a free form loaf of bread, that is a white bread, and super easy.  I got it out of a cookbook called "Artisan bread in 5 minutes a Day".  It has a bit of a sour dough taste to it, and makes great toast!!  And is it good with a lot of jam on it!  The picture in the kitchen is of dad and I making pizza for supper.  I have the scarf on in the kitchen, so as not to get hair in the food I am preparing.  Long blond hairs in food=Not good!!  The next pic is of belgium waffles that we had for breakfast today.  We put black rasberries (from our freezer), picked from the woods last summer- on them, and they were pretty tastey!
I even put the pictures on the computer by myself this time with no help from dad!!
Last night dad and I watched a Lawrence Welk special on PBS.  I do not think he would normally watch this show, but he knows I enjoy that stuff.  I think the costumes and hair styles are such a hoot!  We were tired after watching it last night, and thought, hmm, since daylight saving begins next weekend, it will be 9 at this same time next weekend, so it is ok, to retire tonight at 8, and we did.  We even slept in until 7:45.  So I guess we were tired, and it is good to get the rest one needs.  Now tomorrow I have the day off, so I can sleep in a little.  Dad will get up for class at 7, and I will get up too...  probably.
Daniel and Si did not make it over today.  Si does have an appointment tomorrow to get his eyes checked, and order some glasses.  I will post a pic of him in his new glasses as soon as he does!  He wants Buddy Holly glasses!
Tomorrow is the day to make yogurt, as I used up the last of it today.  I do enjoy it every day for breakfast on my granola!   I am certain that the flaxseed, hemp seed, oats, and bran, with their health benifits, and omega 3's are good nutrition.  I tried to get Si to eat some, but he spit it out.  I will try to make a muffin with flaxseed he will eat.
I am thinking of changing the name of my blog to "Weareall1" what do you think of this?  and not having all of the categories.
Do you ever have dreams in which you recognize people that are in this life, but they are different people in your dreams?  This is hard to explain, but anyway, I dreamed that Elton John was creating a beautiful wood ceiling in an odd home that dad and I were building.  He was a master at what he did, and it was a beautiful intricate ceiling.  I felt indulgant spending that kind of dough on it.  Dreams are so interesting, and odd.  Do you ever go back to the same location in your dreams?  Start a dream journal.  I assure you that you will find it to be very interesting, and you will want to sleep, just to see what is next!   :)

march madness

Hello again,
I do not have any photo's to add for your viewing enjoyment.  I will take some more in the next few days, for all to see with the next blog.  So....something to look forward to.  :)  Today has been an uneventful day.  We slept in until about 7.   Dan  worked today, so he was not home.  I doodled around the house all day.  I washed the dishes, did a little laundry, and straightening up.  I went to the library and returned some items.  I was going to get a movie, but every parking spot was full, and I did not feel like looking elsewhere to park.  I came home then, and made some white bean soup.  Then I wanted chocolate, so I made chocolate brownies that are low fat.  They satisfied my sweet tooth, sort of.  A walk up and down the road on this beautiful sunny day was next.
Dan arrived home mid afternoon, and we moved all of the furniture to the front porch that belongs to the landlords.  That would be the double bed, blue chair, tv, and stand, and the 2 couches that were already in the porch.  They will come by tomorrow and pick them up.  They will go to a family that is from another country, I am not sure where, but they have no furniture, and can use it all.
I could read a book, but am not in the mood for that at the moment.  I think I need a short break from reading, or just something interesting to read.  Any suggestions?
I did make some dough for artisan bread, and have a loaf cooling on the counter presently.  It smells quite good.  I will take a picture of it for next time.  I talked to my friend Myrna for a half hour on the telephone, and we are meeting at the Cafe Carpe next Thursday night!!  That will be good, and I will take my camera!!
I am restless, and want to do something, but have not figured out what it is yet.  I hope that i do very soon!
Later Alligators!  ;)
